At the end of this assignment students should be able to:
• understand food as an source of energy essential to all vital functions,
• understand the principles of digestion, including the role of enzymes in breaking down large molecules into smaller ones,
• know how food is used as a fuel during respiration to maintain the body's activity and as a raw material for growth and repair,
• be able to describe the role of the main organs of the human digestive system,
• describe how the products of digestion are absorbed into the bloodstream and transported throughout the body,
• understand the role of the kidneys in the removal of waste.
